About channel Sky TG 24

Sky TG24 is an Italian news television channel, produced by Sky Italia since 31 August 2003. The network director is Giuseppe De Bellis, deputy directors are Alessandro Marenzi and Omar Schillaci.

Sky TG24 was born on August 31, 2003, under the leadership of Emilio Carelli, with the unification of most of the editorial offices of INN and Stream News. The first edition, broadcast at 06:00, is conducted by Valentina Bendicenti and Salvo Sottile [4]. The channel was broadcast unencrypted until November 30, 2008 by Hot Bird, being made available from the day after only to subscribers to the satellite platform, and can be tuned on channels 100 and 500.

In March 2006, Sky TG24 proposed itself to host the television challenge (with concession of the signal to third parties) for the 2006 political elections between Romano Prodi and Silvio Berlusconi; the latter does not accept the channel's proposal. The same scenario occurs in the 2008 general elections, with the challenge between Berlusconi and Walter Veltroni.

On 6 March 2009, after 15 years of absence from television screens, Sky TG24 hosted the comedian Beppe Grillo, who spoke on the evening program Nightline, hosted by Andrea Bonini, which then ceased at the beginning of 2010.

Starting from 16 December 2009, Sky TG24 will also be broadcast simultaneously on digital terrestrial television as a Sky news programme, initially with only three daily editions (7:00, 14:00, 20:30), before moving on to flash editions.

Since 8 November 2010, three other Sky TG24 channels have been broadcast on satellite: Sky TG24 Primo Piano, Sky TG24 Eventi and Sky TG24 Rassegne, respectively on numbers 503, 504 and 505.

Since 14 February 2011, the channel has been broadcasting in 16:9 format, and from the same day the 21:00 news broadcasts from Milan (until September 2011). From 4 July 2011 Sarah Varetto is the new director of the news channel. From 27 November 2011 Sky TG24 adopts a new graphic design. The most evident innovations are the panel (with space for live video, photos, texts) and the new grid.

With the start of the new season, on 3 September 2012, a complete restructuring of the channel was started, which first of all affected the news room, entirely covered with 70 viewers and an interactive wall 7 meters wide and illuminated with diodes, which allow you to change the color of the studio depending on the time of day leading to an energy saving of 80%. In addition, new graphics are introduced, an evolution of the previous one, one moves on to single management and the columns are renewed and redistributed throughout the day. The renewal has allowed for a greater expansion of the contents and more distinctive and different editions of the news.

On 12 November 2012, the channel broadcast for the first time in high definition, on the occasion of the televised confrontation between the candidates for the centre-left primary elections[9]. Since 1 September 2013, the channel has also been broadcasting in high definition on channels 181 and 500 of the Sky Box HD package, from a renovated studio and with new, more complete and realistic graphics.

Since 26 January 2015, Sky TG24 has also been broadcast on digital terrestrial channel 27, in the Rete A 1 mux, following an agreement with ClassTV. The channel's programming is made up of about 70% news and the rest from insights, documentaries, films and TV series.

From 1 August 2015 Sky Italia buys MTV Italia's LCN 8 and launches the new TV8 channel on it, which broadcasts short information windows called TG News Sky TG24 (in place of MTV News) and, only in the morning, also the simultaneous broadcast of Sky TG24.

Since 30 January 2016, Sky TG24 has also been provisionally available on digital terrestrial number 50 under the name Sky TG24 DFTCD (which stood for Inside the facts with your questions, used at the time as the channel's slogan) .

On February 23, 2016 at 1:00, on digital terrestrial, the channel abandons number 27 to give way to Paramount Channel (later renamed to Paramount Network) and becomes visible definitively only on channel 50.

On 17 January 2017, the management of Sky Italia, chaired by the managing director Andrea Zappia, presented a business plan to the staff of the Roman editorial office which envisages the relocation of the entire editorial structure, except for the political one and the one dedicated to Central Italy , in the Milan Santa Giulia office. The plan provides for 200 redundancies and 300 transfers of employees, technicians and journalists. The news will be broadcast from the Sky center of Milano Santa Giulia, where, according to the company, investments in technological infrastructures will be doubled. Following the meeting of the Editorial Committee, which unanimously expressed its opposition, a state of agitation was proclaimed and a four-day strike package was delivered.

On October 30, the editorial staff moves from Rome to Milan; for the occasion, a new study and new in-depth sections make their debut. On April 30, 2018 the premiere will be broadcast live from the new Montecitorio studio in Rome. In the building located in front of the Chamber of Deputies (formerly the seat of the historic Cinema Capranichetta) there are, in addition to the television studio and control rooms, the offices and meeting rooms of the political editorial staff of the masthead. The inauguration of the new headquarters, visited by Prime Minister Gentiloni a few days after its opening, marks the definitive end of emissions from the Roman one in via Salaria. From the studio, dominated by a large interactive wall and fake windows overlooking the square in front, Sky TG24 Afternoon is broadcast during the daytime, special programs such as "Il Confine" and electoral specials.

On June 1st, it also lands on Mediaset Premium, whose broadcasts begin on the 4th, but it is no longer available from August 1st.

A month later, on July 2, the channel renews its logo at the same time as the other channels of the group, making it more similar to the English version.

With the advent of the new year, on 26 May 2019, with the broadcast of programming dedicated to the European elections, the channel completely renews the graphics, while on the following 16 September the interactive service Sky TG24 Active closes together to the thematic channels Sky TG24 Eventi and Sky TG24 Rassegne. Only the Primo piano thematic channel remains active, moving to channel 501, while channels 502 and 503 are occupied respectively by Sky Meteo 24 and Sky Sport 24.
