GTRK Chita is a regional branch of VGTRK. Broadcasts throughout the entire territory of the Trans-Baikal Territory daily.

The first radio appeared in the Chita region in 1927. But so far only in Chita, and throughout the Chita region, radio began broadcasting in 1932. Created in 1937 as the Committee on Radio Information and Radio Broadcasting of the Executive Committee of the Chita Regional Council of Workers' Deputies.

The first television broadcast in the Chita region appeared in 1963, and the first program of Chita television was “Television and We.”

On November 7, 1965, Chita residents saw for the first time a live broadcast from the square. Lenin demonstration of workers of the city of Chita and parade of troops of the Trans-Baikal Military District.

On December 14, 1979, residents of the cities and villages of the Chita region saw the first color image. On July 1, 1983, state television in Chita was one of the first in the Russian Federation to become three-program. During Perestroika, Chita television began to develop successfully, thanks to new technologies. It was during these years that new author’s programs appeared on television screens and on the radio: on the most pressing topics. In 1992, all Committees on Television and Radio Broadcasting were renamed State Television and Radio Companies.

In 2000, State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company Chita received the status of subsidiaries of All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company. In 2003, thanks to the implementation of a program for the development of television and radio broadcasting, the ChGTRK signal was transmitted to satellite (now it is Yamal-300K) and since then the coverage of the television signal has reached 97% of the entire territory of the Chita region. Until this moment, Chita television broadcast only in 18 of the region’s 32 districts. In 2002, the process of unifying broadcasting began, and the information program “Beyond Baikal” was replaced by the “Vesti-Chita” program. Since 2003, it has become the main product of regional broadcasting. In 2005, after the reorganization, ChGTRK became a branch of VGTRK and acquired the new name “GTRK Chita”. The structure of the new company included the former Aginsk Buryat State Television and Radio Company (ABGTRK) as a Territorial Branch.

On January 16, 2017, the Rossiya-1 TV channel switched to a 16:9 broadcast format, and from now on GTRK Chita also operates in the same format.
