About channel Rai Movie HD

Rai Movie is a free Italian thematic television channel published by Rai and managed by the Rai Gold structure.

The channel was born on 1 July 1999 exclusively on TELE+ Digitale (until 2001 called D+) under the name of RaiSat Cinema. It is part of the RaiSat group, a joint-stock company associated with Rai that deals with preparing channels for satellite pay-TV.

Since 2002 it has been the official television channel of the Venice Film Festival.

On 31 July 2003, RaiSat Cinema became RaiSat Cinema World, coinciding with the birth of Sky Italia. The channel broadcasts films with particular attention to foreign productions, with appointments throughout the day: major cycles, premieres, exclusives, extras and even cinema documentaries chosen from among the best Italian, European and international productions. In the late evening it presents the most provocative works, sometimes forbidden cinema, with great attention to the most curious and discussed films.

On 1 November 2006 it returned to its original name of RaiSat Cinema, with a schedule mostly dedicated to Italian films and events.

In 2009, some commercials were aired to celebrate the tenth anniversary of his birth.

On 31 July 2009, the channel abandoned pay-TV due to the non-renewal of the contract between Rai and Sky. From that moment, RaiSat Cinema became free, moving to digital terrestrial for the areas covered by RAI Mux 3, to the new satellite bouquet Tivùsat and to Rai Play.

This event actually causes the closure of the Rai Sat company, which has now lost its original purpose. Since then, the channel has been managed directly by Rai.

The new Rai Premium structure was born on 27 April 2010 with the aim of coordinating the programming of Rai 4 and this channel.

On May 18, 2010, the name changed to Rai Movie, on the occasion of the restyling that involved all the Rai channels.

On 27 November 2010, the channel merged into the new Rai Gold management, which also deals with Rai Premium.

On May 7, 2011, the channel underwent a restyling with a new graphic look in line with the 2010 restyling.

On December 15, 2014, it adopted a new graphic design for the network's bumpers and promos, as well as a new slogan: Inside the cinema.

From 26 May 2016, the channel began broadcasting in high definition on the Tivùsat satellite platform. With the change in broadcasting that took place in the same period, the channel began broadcasting historic films and TV series on an aspect ratio of 4:3 in 16:9 pillarbox, together with Rai Premium and the other digital terrestrial Rai channels which launched of the year the HD broadcasts on Tivùsat.

On 10 April 2017, the channel renews its graphics and logo, going from dark red to magenta together with the other Rai thematic networks.

From 20 October 2021, the standard definition version on digital terrestrial switches to MPEG-4 encoding, remaining visible only on HD devices.

On December 14, 2021, following a reorganization of frequencies, the SD version from Tivùsat was eliminated, remaining available only in HD.

The official speaker of Rai Movie is the voice actor Rodolfo Bianchi, who succeeded Roberto Draghetti after the latter's death.

On 15 April 2019, Rai released an official press release announcing a merger project between the channel and Rai Premium in order to create a new broadcaster with female programming, Rai 6, as part of a reorganization of the company's television offer[8]. The announcement sparked a lot of controversy, which led to the creation of a petition on the Change.org platform which has garnered more than 150,000 signatures. However, the project was not followed up and the creation of the new channel was suspended pending a clearer editorial programme.

Initially available for a fee first with the D+ bouquet, then with the TELE+ Digitale bouquet, finally with the Sky, Fastweb TV, Alice Home TV and Infostrada TV (channel 322) bouquets. From 31 July 2009, Rai Movie is available free of charge on Italian digital terrestrial in the affected areas covered by RAI Mux A and via satellite with the Tivùsat bouquet. It is also available in streaming via the web on Rai Play, again free of charge.

Dedicated to cinema, the channel is particularly attentive to Italian cinema of the past and present but also offers the works of great international masters and foreign films (sometimes in their original language) which find little space on generalist TV.

Large spaces are dedicated to Italian and foreign film festivals including the Venice International Film Festival, the Rome International Film Festival and the Cannes Film Festival.

Among the historical faces of the network there are Italo Moscati, Paola Casella, Virginie Vassart, Sergio Gamberale, Natascha Lusenti, Serafino Murri, Mimma Nocelli, Livio Beshir, Alberto Farina.

After a year's hiatus, in September 2010 it was confirmed, with its new name, as the official channel of the Venice Film Festival.

Since 2012, Rai Movie has been proposing some short news bulletins produced by the editorial staff of Rai News and has launched the new Drugstore magazine (which will become Movie Drugstore in 2013 and CineMag in 2014) dedicated to the world of cinema and hosted by Miriam Leone and Livio Beshir.< /p>

Since 1 July 2013, Rai Movie has been broadcasting many films in dual audio; by tuning into the OTH channel, it is possible to listen to films and TV series in their original language, or with audio comments.

The first edition of Movie Mag, Rai Movie's film information magazine, hosted by Federico Pontiggia and Livio Beshir and directed by Giuseppe Bucchi and Gianluca Russo, has started in September 2015. Since September 2016 Federico Pontiggia has been joined in the management by Alberto Crespi. The authors of the program are Gida Salvino and Gianluca Russo. In the 2018-19 season, the See You Next Wednesday column by Alberto Farina was introduced, who also took over the management from September 2019. Luca Postiglioni and Carla Bettoni take turns directing.
