Nergis Television, or NTV for short, is Turkey's first news channel, founded in 1996 by Cavit Çağlar and Nuri Çolakoğlu. NTV, which changed the Turkish media industry with the success it achieved by joining Doğuş Broadcasting Group in January 1999, started the thematic news channel era in Turkey. NTV also broadcasts programs focusing on economy, culture-art, life and sports, especially national and international news.

Broadcasts on topics such as health, education and the environment, as well as special projects such as Green Screen, are among the concrete examples of NTV's approach to social responsibility awareness, which is an important part of its corporate identity.

First of all, journalist and television personality Nuri Çolakoğlu decides to establish a news channel based on the lack of a television channel that will broadcast with a news theme in Turkey. Then, he meets Cavit Çağlar, the former minister of state, businessman, politician and the founder of Olay TV, about determining the name of the news channel to be established for him, undertaking the financing and its contents. Cavit Çağlar suggested to Nuri Çolakoğlu the name of his own holding's television channel, Nergis, in short, NTV. Çolakoğlu, who liked the idea, determined the name of the news channel to be established as NTV. In addition, Cavit Çağlar has undertaken the financing of this channel. The contents are under the responsibility of Nuri Çolakoğlu. After this agreement, the music channel Satel 2, which broadcasts under the Medya Holding owned by Dinç Bilgin, was purchased by Cavit Çağlar. After this purchase, it started test broadcasting on November 1, 1996, and only culture-art-themed clips were rotated during this process. On November 8, 1996, test broadcasts ended and news-themed broadcasts began. It is currently known as Nergis Television. Namely, the father of the name is Cavit Çağlar and the name rights of the channel have been in his hands since its establishment.

During its publication life, it was deemed worthy of more than 700 awards by various organizations. NTV, headquartered in Istanbul; Ankara, Izmir, Diyarbakir and Brussels representatives, correspondents from all over the country and the world follow the agenda through the world's leading news organizations such as Reuters, ENEX, APTN, BBC and various news agencies. It has switched to 16:9 widescreen format as of March 23, 2013. NTV News and Star News Center has been running since October 2011. In January 1999, it was transferred from Nergis Group to Doğuş Group. The old name of the channel is Satel 2.

NTV HD is the high definition channel of NTV broadcasting simultaneously with NTV, which was founded on January 17, 2016.
