About channel Canal Extremadura

Canal Extremadura is a Spanish free-to-air television channel that functions as the public television channel of Extremadura. It is owned by the Sociedad Pública de Televisión Extremeña, S.A.U., which in turn is part of the Audiovisual Media Corporation of Extremadura (CEXMA) created by Law 4/2000.

Since 2011, it is part of a single company, the Sociedad Pública de Radiodifusión y Televisión Extremeña SAU, which brings together television and radio.

After a test broadcast period that began on November 30, 2005, its first programming phase began on February 15, 2006 with nine hours of daily broadcast, between 3:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. Its first news program, called Extremadura 20:30, premiered on June 7, 2006.

Its facilities are located in Mérida, the regional capital. It also has offices in Cáceres and Badajoz.

It is not part of FORTA (Federation of Autonomous Radio and Television Organizations), although it signed agreements to obtain exclusive content from said federation, such as the Champions League matches from 2009 to 2012.

In February 2007, he created Extremadura TV, an international channel dedicated to promoting the region, re-broadcasting Canal Extremadura's own-produced content. Its broadcasts could be followed by DTT until 2011. On December 31, 2011, its satellite signal ceased in Astra. In 2014 it began its broadcasts through Hispasat Canal Extremadura SAT.
