French Commander accuses UK of “ingratitude” over migrant crossing patrols - BBC News

More than 17,000 migrants have crossed the English Channel in small boats in 2021, that’s double the number for all of 2020.

The UK government has threatened to withhold millions of pounds in funding from the French authorities unless they intercept more vessels carrying migrants.

But the French commander in charge of coastal operations in the Pas-de-Calais region has accused the British of ingratitude and said he will withdraw his patrols if UK money is withheld.

Huw Edwards presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Lucy Williamson.
