Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced a windfall tax on energy companies which will partly fund a £400 energy bill discount for millions of people.

Its part of a £15bn package announced by the government to help those struggling to pay household bills.

The tax takes the form of a temporary levy on oil and gas companies who have seen bumper profits as a result of soaring prices.
