The Secret Life of Frogs

Although some 60% of amphibians are endemic to the Indian sub-continent, the majority of the 400 species found there are already on the endangered list.

In this film, award-winning photographer and filmmaker Vijay Bedi highlights the lives and plight of these tiny, mysterious creatures. His camera painstakingly captures frog species that display a fascinating range of behaviour – one uses dance moves to seduce its mate, and another performs headstands, while the ‘potter frog’ gently encases its eggs in clay to safeguard them from predators.

Also documented for the first time is the life cycle of the rarely-seen purple frog, which very seldom emerges to breed – just another of the many quirky denizens of that threatened habitat, the rainforest undergrowth.
