Born in the Wild

Focusing on four species – elephant, dolphin, kangaroo and orangutan – anatomist Prof. Joy Reidenberg and vet Mark Evans take an in-depth look at how the important business of finding, fighting for and wooing the opposite sex is conducted within the animal kingdom.

Why are the sexual desires of a male elephant heightened during the periodic condition known as musth? How do orangutans give birth safely, so high up in the trees? Why are the pregnancies of kangaroos so short? And how do dolphins do their mating at high speed?

These and other intriguing questions are tackled in this series as BORN IN THE WILD examines the biology and reproductive behaviours that have enabled these remarkable creatures to triumph over their challenging environments.
